LIMA — Take a step back in time to the days when Lima’s downtown was bustling with shoppers awaiting the Christmas season. That blast from the past returns Saturday when the annual Downtown Lima 2010 Holiday Festival again fills the air with Christmas magic.
“We have a lot of people tell us they remember what the city used to be like at Christmas, with people lined up waiting for Santa to arrive. Well, we’re doing that again and inviting people to come downtown and see the lights, enjoy themselves, and see Santa arrive,” said Aubree Kaye, assistant director of Downtown Lima Inc.
And a plethora of events and activities will be available to keep everyone busy, regardless of age. There will be Santa’s Secret Shop for the little ones, as well as plenty of activities for them to enjoy. There will also be horse-drawn carriage rides, tours, and music for kids of all ages.
Tied in with the festivities will be the Christmas Tree Festival at the Allen County Museum, and the 50th anniversary of the Lima Public Library.
“We’ve done this for multiple years, and we always try to tie some different events into this. Stores downtown will also be hosting special events, just enough to invite people to the downtown to see what’s available,” Kaye said.
She added that the downtown street project should be completed by Saturday, and that parking will be available on-street as well as at the parking garage.
