How to coupon:
This week’s lesson is how to shop at Walmart. Walmart does not offer store coupons, have rewards, or a store shopping card. However, they have some low prices and match competitors advertised pricing. The key word in that is advertised. Walmart stores do not honor regular store prices that you see at their competitors without it being in the competitor’s ad, as outlined in their price matching policy. When matching advertised prices that have store rewards, for example +Up and Extrabuck rewards, Walmart matches the sale price, not the price of the item after the reward. So, for those items you will save more money by purchasing them at the store that has the item on sale. Walmart will not double coupons. Meijer and Rays Supermarkets both double coupons that are 50 cents or less every day. You can still use coupons when you are price matching. Coupons are not a discount offered by Walmart, they are discounts offered by the manufacturer that pay Walmart the coupon value, plus 8 cents per coupon for shipping and handling.
Some items are cheap enough at Walmart to purchase without worrying about price matching. You can also get several cheap to free items with your coupons by shopping at Walmart. For example, you can currently print a coupon for $1 off two Reach Floss. Reach Floss is around 96 cents, so using this coupon makes it even cheaper. Often times you’ll find $1 off one Reach Floss coupons available, and that makes it completely free.
Walmart gives coupon overage. They are the only store in this area that allows this. Overage is when your coupon value exceeds the price of the item you're purchasing and that extra amount is applied towards the rest of your balance. You will receive actual cash back if you are not purchasing another product. Overage is given to you after taxes.
They accept coupons from competitors. However, this is kind of tricky. They have to be manufacturer coupons. Coupons in a competitor’s ad cannot be for so many dollars or cents off, but the ad needs to instead state the actual sale price of the item.
Catalina coupons that are printed at competitor’s registers are also accepted at Walmart. These are the long coupons that print at the register at Kroger, Meijer, Walgreens, Rays Supermarkets, and now Rite Aid. Most of the time these are manufacturer coupons. They say the store name on them because that is where they printed from, however they can be used just like a manufacturer coupon that you clip from your newspaper. Walmart accepts these as long as they say Manufacturer Coupon at the top, have a valid expiration date, and a remit address, and the dollar or cents amount is off a specified product. Walmart does not accept coupons that state “Save $2 off your next shopping trip,” but the store accepts coupons that state “$2 off (product name)." I highly recommend that you print the Walmart Price Matching Policy and Coupon Policy. Both of these policies can be found at www.StephanieSavings.net, click on the Walmart tab.
