LIMA — The Allen County Museum is hosting its popular Ridin’ The Rails Train Excursion 2017 Sunday. This event usually sells out, and it is recommended that people call the Allen County Museum at 419-222-9426 to see if tickets are available.
“There will be a train with two engines on it, one on the front, one on the back. We take off from Lincoln Park and go down to Jackson Center. One pulls us one way, then the other one pulls us back. We will be using two Nickel Plate engines. It will be Nickel Plate 901 and Nickel Plate 902. There will be between four and six cars, depending on the number of tickets we sell. Some of them are from the 1920s and 1930s and then some of them are from the 1950s. These are more the historic cars,” said Donna Collins, event organizer for the Allen County Museum.
Collins urges people to get to Lincoln Park ahead of the departure time.
“These guys are leaving whether people are loaded or not, because we are only allowed so much time on those tracks. They had to get permits, so to get down there and back they’re very, very prompt,” said Collins.
The ride lasts approximately one hour and 45 minutes.
The train display in Lincoln Park is open for people to go through, and the firefighters will have their museum open that day, too. There will be souvenirs and snacks both on the train and in the park for sale.
