LIMA — Ties “Dutch” Wapperom is celebrating his 90th birthday with dinner with family and friends at Der Dutchman.
He was born Aug. 19, 1927, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, to Teunis and Grietje Wapperom. On Feb. 9, 1950, he married Dicky.
He has three children, Vera (Denny) Collier, of Bear Lake, Michigan, Monique (Denny) Bryan, of Lima, and Randy (Dawn) Wapperom, of Lima. He has four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A great-grandchild is deceased.
He came to the United States on Sept. 6, 1953, with his wife and 2-year-old daughter. He worked at Scot Lad Foods in the garage as a mechanic, retiring in 1987. He and his wife owned and operated Holland Motor Sales car lot for 15 years. Until a few years ago, he enjoyed camping, traveling through most of the United States and Canada.
