Kenton celebrates spring with festival

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

KENTON - Go fly a kite.

 Literally.

Kenton's Spring Festival 2008, happening Saturday at the Hardin County Historical Farm Museum, is welcoming kite flyers of all kinds, said organizer Steve Hiller, as well local families and festival fans to the unique event.

"It's a variety of everything," he said. "It's a variety of entertainment opportunities. There's nothing in one genre or another."

The main attraction at the festival will be the kite flying. Flying is open to anyone who wants to participate, Hiller said. Festival organizers are expecting all levels of flying expertise, from local amateurs to expert kite flyers from around the state, including stunt kite demonstrators.

Guests will also be treated to multiple musical acts throughout the day, Hiller said, from classical to folk music to a cappella barbershop music. Some musicians will tour the grounds throughout the day, as well, treating people to impromptu performances. Vendors will also be available with food, crafts, jewelry, soaps and more. Kids uninterested in shopping can keep themselves involved with crafts and games provided by the visiting Marion County Historical Society.

Extra details will give the Spring Festival its final charming touches, Hiller said. There is admission fee and no parking fee. Festival organizers are only asking for donations, which will benefit the Hardin County Historical Farm Museum.

With so much to see and do, Hiller said guests will have their hands full on Saturday.

"There no way you can see everything," he said. "This is something totally unique to the area."
