WAUSEON — The Special Deluxe was Plymouth’s premier model in 1941, and it enjoyed great success. The Special Deluxe models were given bumper in ‘wingtips’ and center Superguards. Another notable change was the alligator opening hood. The battery was moved from under the seat to under the hood. Running boards were now considered an option on the Special Deluxe. Plymouth built its four-millionth car in 1941. Model year sales were high due to people purchasing new vehicles in anticipation of America’s entry into World War II.

Arnie and Shirley Bunke, of Wauseon, brought their 1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe to The Lima News’ Real Wheels Cruise-In. They owned this vehicle from 1948 until 1968, sold it, then bought it back in 2004. They knew a good thing when they had it. It was originally Arnie’s dad’s car. Arnie learned to drive in this car, and Arnie and Shirley went on their first date in this car. Something that they are proud of because their license plate reads: 1ST D8TE. When they bought the car again in 2004, they spent five years restoring it. Seems like both Arnie and Shirley know a good thing when they see it!
