VAN WERT The Pontiac Firebird was built by Pontiac between 1967 and 2002. The Firebird was introduced the same year as Chevrolet's Camaro. The first generation Firebirds (1967 to 1969) had a Coke bottle style. The bumpers were molded into the design of the front end and its rear taillights were inspired by the Pontiac GTO. Some car enthusiasts consider the 1968 Pontiac Firebird the best compact muscle car of the year.

Roy and Linda Jeknavorian, of Van Wert, brought a photo of their 1968 Pontiac Firebird 350 HO to The Lima News. Roy is a native of N.Y. and is the original owner of this beauty. He was in the Army stationed in Virginia, and had his brother place the order for this car for him. "He ordered it, but I paid for it," Jeknavorian said. "This is the first car I ever bought. My brother and I grew up liking Pontiacs," he added. The car came in the day after Christmas, and the day after that, Jeknavorian drove it from New York back to his post in Virginia. He met is wife, Linda, while in the Army. She was serving in the Army as well and was working in the same hospital as Jeknavorian when they met and started dating. "I tell her that she was dating the car and not me," Jeknavorian said. "He used to let me drive it, but not anymore," Linda added. He has no intentions of selling it soon. He is making his first trip to the Trans Am Nationals, held in Dayton during the weekend of Aug. 23rd of this year. "I have about 20 trophies, since I've been showing it and I've only been showing it for six to seven years," he said.
