LIMA — The Ford Galaxie first appeared in 1959. Similar to the Fairlane, they were distinguished by differing ornamentation. Ford redesigned the Galaxie in 1965, giving it a wider stance and dual vertical stacked headlights. The goal of large, quiet and comfortable had been reached. With large engines , sporty feel and luxury, the 1966 Galaxie was well known for its clean lines and many performance options. It featured spacious interiors and more steel than most automobiles. There was a total of 9,849 convertibles produced during this year.Knox E. Maney, of Lima, brought his 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible to The Lima News’ Real Wheels Cruise-In. He has owned it for three years. The car is a North Carolina car, and has the original 390 engine. There are 38,812 miles on this car. Maney says his favorite memories are the thumbs up you get when you drive it from people you pass.
