Home tour ushers in holidays

FINDLAY — The Findlay Service League had the first of its Christmas wishes granted when they secured five historical homes along that city’s South Main Street for its biennial Holiday Homes Tour.

“We try to pick a central area in town when we have these tours, which we do every two years. We were really hopeful this year that we could get enough participating homeowners in the South Main Street area because of all the historic homes there,” said Amy Fisher, publicity chairman for the league. “All of the homes there are more than 100 years old,” Fisher said.

In fact, one of those historic homes, The Ritter Home, was the household occupied by two presidents of the oil company that is now Marathon.

But the history isn’t the only draw for this tour.

Each of the homes will be decorated for the holiday by area decorators and florists, each interpreting the theme, “The Magic of Mistletoe.”

“It’s always interesting to see what they do to these homes. And to give people a peek into these historical homes as they’re all decorated for the holidays is quite an opportunity,” Fisher said.

Adding to the historical Christmas theme will be horse-drawn sleigh rides running down Main Street.

“We believe this will be a great opportunity to showcase this portion of town. And all proceeds from the event supports the Findlay Service League for the next two years,” Fisher said.
