Tribute forecast to ‘Rain' down on Beatles fans
November 06, 2009 1:39 PM
LIMA — The music of the Beatles, performed by musicians steeped in the music of the masters, will greet patrons of “Rain — A Tribute to the Beatles,” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Civic Center. saw the Beatles perform on Ed Sullivan in 1964.
Musicians in their own right, they were mesmerized by the music and began performing the numbers, forming a group they called “Reign.” Over the years, the “Reign” changed to “Rain,” which was also the title of an early Beatles song.
The tribute group performs live all of the Beatles songs, including those that the Fab Four did only as studio songs. Using new instrumental technology and transcribing that into the sounds used by The Beatles is an ongoing challenge for the tribute band. “That’s the kind of field work we’re doing all the time,” Bithorn said.
Of course, it’s all in anticipation of bringing the music to their audience.
“Our greatest moments are up on stage. A lot of times people are looking at us like, ‘there’s no way they’re going to pull this off,’ but after a song or two, they’re into it,” he said.
And what is it about Beatles music that transcends the years?
“It’s so well written,” Bithorn said. “It’s the same as what keeps Beethoven or Mozart popular. There’s a cleverness to this music. And as they say, a good song is a good song is a good song.”
