Animals and more at McCluer swap meet

LIMA - Whether you're in the market for flowers, pumpkins or a goat, you'll probably be able to find it at the McCluer Animal Swap Meet and Flea Market, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the McCluer farm, five miles east of Interstate 75.
About 125 vendors will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Clothing, jewelry, antiques and tools are just a few of the vendors, Diane said. On the animal side, there will be sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, dogs and more. And there will be food vendors.
"You name it, we've got it. We never know what's coming. We've had regular (vendors) from day one" but new ones sign up each year, said Diane McCluer, who has been organizing the event for the past 18 years with husband, Max McCluer.
A giant pumpkin contest will be Sunday at 1 p.m. and a vendors' auction is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday. Pumpkins have been grown especially for the contest from seeds taken from last year's winner, a 650-pounder. Diane said she knows of two of these pumpkin protégés that are about 400 pounds each.
In addition to the swap meet and flea market, Max McCluer auctions livestock and general merchandise the second Saturday of each month at the farm. Admission to the event is free. Call 419-230-9134 for details.
