MINSTER — Let your German shine this weekend at the annual Minster Oktoberfest.
“People seem to enjoy these activities at this time of year,” said Sue Brandewie of the Oktoberfest committee.
Again this year, everything German from entertainment to beer to activities will fill the town of Minster.
“We’re keeping basically the same game plan as we have in years past. We like to offer something for all ages,” Brandewie said.
That includes arts and crafts on display, a car show, and a 10K run. “Also, we have a wonderful parade on Sunday. We’ve got more than 100 units scheduled to participate that include everything from local high school bands to the Shriners,” Brandewie said.
And then there’s the beer.
“We have the same style of beers that we’ve had in the past. Bud Light is on tap, and we have the Wooden Shoe beer returning and other German beers, or heritage beers, as we like to call them,” she said.
Also beer related is the annual beer tray relays. “I think that’s sort of a novelty event of ours. We had 60 teams compete last year, and I think we’ll have at least that many again this year,” she said.
If the weather holds, Brandewie said upwards of 60,000 people typically show up for the festival.
“We’re satisfied if everyone, young and old, can leave here with a smile on their faces,” Brandewie said.
