CELINA — The smell of barbecued ribs will fill the air in Celina this weekend when the seventh annual RibFest opens at the Mercer County Fairgrounds.
“This is the first event like this of the season in our county, so people look forward to this,” said Jackie Lacy, fair secretary at the Mercer County Fairgrounds. And this year, they won’t be disappointed.
There will be seven vendors selling ribs and dinners at a la carte pricing. Additionally, four vendors will be on hand to supplement the meals with everything from ice cream to fried veggies to kettle corn. “The main event is ribs, but you can find a lot to go with them this year,” Lacy said.
But it’s not just food that will keep people busy. There’s a car show today and a motorcycle show on Saturday. There’s a rib eating contest, a pedal pull, and plenty of entertainment. And of course, there’s the people’s choice award of top rib vendor.
“And, we have camping available. Just come to the fair board office and we’ll get you a spot,” Lacy said.
