LIMA — A jewel of a midwinter find will be offered Saturday when the Lima Symphony Orchestra takes the stage for its annual “Romantic Fantasy” concert.

“Our February concert is traditionally a highly classical concert. The pieces this year are well-known and well-loved by classical music enthusiasts,” said Elizabeth Brown, marketing director for the symphony.

One of the pieces Brown said the audience will really enjoy is Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 in B flat.

“Everyone is very familiar with Beethoven’s 5th and 9th symphonies, but No. 4 is just a beautiful piece. It’s happy and joyful and a wonder to listen to,” Brown said.

Joining the orchestra for Max Bruch’s “Scottish Fantasy in E flat” will be violin soloist Pip Clarke.

“Pip has been here about seven years ago, and she’s wonderful. She is a very romantic performer, who always gives a very lyrical performance. Her work is always wonderful to listen to,” Brown said.

Rounding out the concert will be Bedrich Smetana’s “The Moldau,” with its theme depicting Bohemian life and folklore.

“This concert really is a jewel of a concert. It’s beautiful music, and just the perfect thing to warm you in the cold of winter,” Brown said.

Concert goers are encouraged to wear red to this concert in recognition of February as National Heart Month, and also in support of the symphony’s “Go Red for Women” effort.
