LIMA — Tour the United States and never leave your seat at the 65th annual Barbershop Harmony Show, “This Is My Country.”

“This is unique because we have guys like Billy Graham and Garrison Keillor introducing music from their section of the country,” said John Wellman, president of the Lima Beane Chorus, which hosts and performs at the annual show. “We have some patriotic songs, but we also have a lot of fun songs that people will enjoy. It really is just like taking a trip across country."

The local barbershoppers will be joined by two award-winning quartets, The Four Man Fishin’ Tackle Choir and Forefront. Of those, Forefront was judged in 2011 and 2012 among the international top 10 quartets.

“These groups do their own music, and they are both just phenomenal,” Wellman said.

And this year, the Lima Beane Chorus is staging a larger and more diverse group than normal.

“We’ve taken in some new members,” Wellman said. “Many of those have thought about joining us in the past, and we’ve had a few of them tell us that they wish they would have done this sooner. We have a lot of fun in this group. We meet 52 weeks a year, so if someone has to miss a week or two for vacation, it’s no big deal,” Wellman said.

For this concert, the group has added some rehearsal times.

“I really think the extra preparation, along with the enthusiasm of our members, will join to make this one of the better concerts we’ve ever done,” Wellman said.
