VAN WERT — Niswonger Performing Arts Center promises to rock you on Saturday when “The Music of Queen” takes center stage for the season finale.
“We thought this would be a good season finale because this concert pulsates energy. We wanted to close out a good season with a concert that has broad appeal, and brings a real positive excitement to the stage,” said Tafi Stober, marketing director for Niswonger.
The show will feature 70 performers on stage, including a full rock band, stars from the West End musical, “We Will Rock You,” and the Lima Symphony Orchestra.
Yes, you read that right, the Lima Symphony Orchestra.
“It’s going to be a fusion of music,” Stober said.
Adds Elizabeth Brown, director of marketing for the Lima Symphony Orchestra, “We think our musicians will add a depth and a richness to this already wonderful music.”
The four singers, two women and two men, will include some of Queen’s biggest hits, including “We are the Champions,” and “We Will Rock You.” The two-hour show will also include “Radio Ga-Ga,” “Fat Bottomed Girls” and “Don’t Stop Me Now.”
The premise of the show is that the four singers were selected by Brian May, a surviving member of Queen, to tour the country and bring the iconic music of Queen to the masses. The music is interspersed with a brief history of the band.
Since the show debuted in 2008, it has brought the Freddy Mercury vocals to audiences around the world.
“Everywhere this concert has been performed, it’s gotten rave reviews. And, they’re really going to rock it out here,” Stober added.
