LIMA See the world when ArtSpace/Lima opens its gallery Saturday to The Other Side of the Earth, a one-man show by Chun Arthur Wang.

His pictures are breathtaking, said Bill Sullivan, operations manager at ArtSpace. Its oil-on-canvas, and the works are large, like 4-by-3-foot large. Hes got a style that begins with a very muted pastel background. On top of that in the near foreground, he puts a couple of human figures in bold color. Its almost photographic realism, and its just stunning, Sullivan said of the 28 pieces.

Wang is a native of China who now teaches at the Columbus College of Art and Design. His subject matter in his works is the idyllic Chinese countryside of a bygone era.

One of his pieces, the one were using on a lot of our promotion for this exhibit, shows a lady sideways, catching a snowflake on her tongue, Sullivan said.

Wangs paintings have been exhibited in China, Chile, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and throughout the United States. Many of his works are held in private and public collections, including the China National Museum of Fine Arts in Beijing, the University of Colorado, and the Ohio State House.

This one-man show highlights a rural China, populated by ordinary people caught in extraordinary moments, and painted with a combination of delicacy and power.

Hes offering a gallery talk on his work on Saturday, which will be really wonderful, Sullivan said. Im just delighted with what hes brought for us."
