CELINA ‚?? Fun at the lake. Who can‚??t fit that into their busy schedule? And this year, the Celina Lake Festival‚??s theme is ‚??Those Were the Days,‚?Ě promising lots family-friendly events to fill the weekend.
‚??This is free family event with no alcohol. You can feel safe bringing the family here and just enjoying yourselves,‚?Ě said Kevin Pyle of the festival committee.
Perhaps the biggest draw of the festival is the always-popular cars that motor in the water. ‚??We‚??ve got our Amphicar swim-in on Friday night, and I‚??ve heard that this will be a pretty big year. I‚??ve heard an estimate that we‚??ll have somewhere around 40 cars participate in that,‚?Ě Pyle said.
Returning after an absence of a few years will be helicopter rides of the area. And new this year will be a hot dog eating contest.
Also this year, almost all of the events will be at Lake Shore Park. ‚??In past years we‚??ve had some of the events along Main Street, but this year we‚??re having everything at the park, with the exception of the car show. That will still be on Main Street, and we‚??re closing it down so everybody can come look at the cars. It‚??s always a good time,‚?Ě Pyle said.
And if you think fireworks are over for the year, think again. At the Lake Festival, the pyrotechnics begin at 10 p.m. today. In case of rain, the fireworks will be shot off Saturday after the parade.
‚??We‚??ve got a good schedule, with a lot to offer people,‚?Ě Pyle said.
Whatever your idea of fun, it‚??s at the lake.
