LIMA — A celebration of specialty beers carries on tonight at Chief Supermarket’s Cable Road location, where a Craft Beer Fest benefit is pouring funds into Red Cross coffers.

“This worked out well because we know there’s quite a niche market for craft beers, and we’re not familiar with any such festival in this area,” said Annette Hoeffel, director of marketing for Chief Super Markets. Proceeds from the festival go to the American Red Cross. “They’re a wonderful agency, and I think people realize that,” Hoeffel said.

For this festival, 30 craft beers will be available, from which participants can select 10 to sample. “We will have representatives there to answer questions and talk with people about the beers,” Hoeffel added. To go with those beers, the Chief’s stadium and cheddar brats will also be available for sale.

“Craft beers are really unique. They’re made in smaller batches so the brewmeister can fine tune the samples,” Hoeffel explained. The brewers, it is said, can interpret historic styles with unique twists and develop new styles that have no precedent.

And for those who appreciate that uniqueness, Hoeffel said Chief Supermarkets are well-stocked. “We have a fairly large selection of craft beers that we sell, especially at our Cable Road location.”

Proceeds from this first-time event will go to the Red Cross, which will use it to help respond to people in need, whether victims of a house fire locally or a disaster in other states.
