LIMA — Celebrate the good life with your friends when Rally in the Square kicks off this evening in Lima’s Town Square.
“We are kicking off with the local band, The Indoorfins,” said Kay Van Meter, associate manager at ArtSpace/Lima, which hosts the weekly parties that run through Aug. 30. Rain or shine.
“The Indoorfins have kicked us off for a few years, and they’re always big crowd pleasers,” Van Meter said.
Mike Baker sets the entertainment, and this year Van Meter said he has pulled in a lot of local bands to entertain at the weekly parties.
“We do have a lot of local bands performing … bands that have a following and that people will enjoy,” Van Meter said.
Included in that local cast of favorites, along with The Indoorfins, are Hey there morgan, Spazz and Will Freed, Brother Believe Me, and The Hipnotix.
The party, which dates back to the early 1990s, has been a crowd favorite since its inception. “When the weather’s great, your friends show up and you can share a beverage together, what could be better?” Van Meter said.
Depending on the weather, crowds for the weekly gathering average from 600 to 1,600 people, she said.
As in past years, food will be available. “There’s always food at the rallies. We’ll have it either right here, or now there are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance,” Van Meter said.
