LIMA — The Lima Symphony Orchestra invited people this year to come to their concerts and leave inspired.

For any hold-outs, their season finale is a concert promising a hold-on-to-your-seat wall of sound guaranteed to inspire.

“This is a big, spectacular orchestral concert, the best of everything we do,” said Elizabeth Brown, marketing director for the Lima Symphony Orchestra.

Joining the symphony will be a host of vocal talent, including soprano Martha Guth and baritone Leon Williams, along with the BGSU Choral Society and the Lima Symphony Chorus. And, students from West Junior High will also be thrown in the mix to perform.

“That’s more bodies than we’ve ever had on stage before. We’re borrowing risers from everywhere to accommodate. But they are all joining forces for Carl Orff’s 'Carmina Burana,' which is just non-stop drama. It will be spectacular,” Brown said.

That piece begins and ends with “O Fortuna,” which celebrates the fickleness of fortune and wealth. This recognizable number, which will be performed in Latin, also celebrates the pleasures and perils of drinking, gluttony, gambling and lust.

And if that’s not enough, the program will also include piano soloist Evan Mitchell performing Franz Liszt’s “Totentanz.” “That piece is sparkling and brilliant and lively. People will just love it. And Evan was the winner of our Friends of the Symphony 2011 Young Artists Competition, so that makes his return even more special,” Brown said.

“This concert is packed full. It’s rare for us to have this much in one concert, but this is very fast-moving and just spectacular,” Brown said.

Inspirational, they promise.
