LIMA — Lurch your way toward a good time Saturday when the third annual Zombie Walk unwraps at Faurot Park.
“This grows incrementally every year,” said Linda Gabriele, organizer of the fundraiser for Happy Tails Pet Partners. “One year it was cold and misty, but everyone still comes out."
In fact, you can’t stop a zombie on mission.
And this year, the zombies will follow a theme.
“I was watching a horror movie, 'Planet Terror,' and the idea of a theme for the walk came to me, so I decided to do a toxic spill sort of story to go along with this walk. We have volunteers who will dress in hazmat outfits. We have some friends at radio stations who will be doing some bulletins for us during that time. It will be a fun time,” Gabriele said.
And for the zombies rising for the occasion, there will be plenty of reasons to enjoy their walk among the living.
“I have one woman who said she’s coming out to celebrate her 60th birthday with us. I have a lot of people saying they enjoy something like this to take advantage of a great day outdoors. We have kids coming for the candy. There’s food, and a band, and just a good gathering,” Gabriele said.
And the best part? The money will go to help dogs.
“I volunteer for Happy Tails Pet Partners, and I can tell you that every single dime they raise goes towards treatment for dogs in their care, or towards trying to find those dogs adoptable homes. Every $20 saves a dog,” she said.
