LIMA ‚?? Elephants, marionettes and science experiments ‚?? they‚??re just a few of the things visitors to the 2011 edition of the Allen County Fair will have the opportunity to experience up close and personal.Sure, this year‚??s fair is packed with all the usual elements ‚?? Junior Fair projects, rides and games on the midway and big name entertainment in the grandstand. It‚??s also packed with plenty of free entertainment throughout the Allen County Fairgrounds.‚??I had decided by the time I was 9 years old that show business is for me. Of course, when you‚??re a kid no one takes you seriously,‚?Ě Nancy Mitchell, who will be bringing her Mitchell Showboat Marionettes to town, said. ‚??I have always thought it was a wonderful thing to do. I made my first puppet when I was 12. I‚??ve never looked back. I‚??ve made about 200 puppets altogether.‚?ĚMitchell said the show contains something for everyone with a pirate twist this year. The show brings back memories of yesteryear for older guests who remember the days when live puppetry was more prevalent.‚??People just don‚??t get to see live puppetry all that often anymore,‚?Ě Mitchell said. ‚??But, you never know when the next Jim Henson will be inspired.‚?ĚFor those seeking entertainment involving live animals, Elephant Encounter offers an opportunity to see and learn about both the African and Asian elephants up close and personal, trainer Bill Morris said.‚??It‚??s mostly an educational opportunity to show the difference between the species,‚?Ě Morris said. ‚??They have personalities just like people. There are some things that the African elephant will do that the Asian elephant won‚??t and vice versa. We just go with their temperaments.‚?ĚIf interactive science activities are more your thing, COSI on Wheels is also going to have a presence at this year‚??s fair, said Nicole Rife, manager of COSI on Wheels Outreach Programs.‚??We will be bringing 20 Science Spot kiosks to the Allen County Fair. We will also do one demo each day,‚?Ě Rife said. ‚??The demo is called, ‚??It‚??s so Hot, it‚??s Cold.‚?? A COSI outreach educator will explore and demonstrate some very interesting properties of one of the coldest liquids on Earth, liquid nitrogen, in a 20-minute long, high energy program.‚?Ě
