LIMA — Some of the most unique cars in the area will be on display Sunday when the fifth annual Charity Car Show pulls into the Westgate Entertainment Center.

But, this car show features more than cars.

“We like to offer more every year. You stay status quo, and people get bored. They’re not going to be bored here,” promised Andy Maravola, who along with John Waller and Andy Johnson are hosting this show.

But it’s the cars that take the center spotlight. And this year, more than 200 cars are expected to vie for prizes including a $500 Best of Show, a Best Street-Ready Car, and a best street-ready car held together with duct tape and chicken wire. There will also be awards for the top 40 cars, a top bike award, and open class bike award. Each of the promoters will also choose a favorite from the vehicles at the show, which is open to all vehicles and motorcycles.

Yet there’s more.

An F-16 simulator will allow folks a faux flight inside the fighter plane. The Abrams Tank will be on hand, as will the DARE car, the Sheriff’s Department dive truck, and a Hazmat vehicle.

There will be a craft show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and free fingerprinting and identification for children throughout the afternoon. And, a 50/50 drawing, door prizes and raffles will be held throughout the day. You must be present to claim a raffle prize.

Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Allen County DARE program, as well as the Needy Children’s Christmas Fund. In the past, the show has given $10,000 to local charities.
