LIMA The 65-member Lima Area Concert Band brings a casual vibe to its Saturday performance with the always popular Cabaret offering.

The Cabaret is one of our most popular concerts, said John Hill, director of the band. Its casual, and thats appealing to a lot of people they can get up and move around and meet the band members during breaks, Hill added.

And the light snacks and music are designed to fit the mood of the night.

Its a lot of light, entertaining music. There will be several solo and ensemble groups performing a variety of short pieces. We have John Williams music, we have some 'Saturday Night Fever' and then we have 'Stardust.' We also have music from the new 'Star Trek' movie. Actually, that one includes music from the old movie, music from the television show, and then some music from the new movie, Hill said.

This concert is also known for spotlighting various instruments in the band.

It has become tradition in our band that every June the members decide what they want to do for this concert and they run the ideas by me. This year we have a tuba quartet, and a saxophone quartet, which are some unique things. That gives us a lot more chance to show the various areas of the band, and people seem to like that. And, that gets our members enthused also. They enjoy doing something different. Its one thing to sit as part of a group and perform and quite another to step up front and center and perform, Hill said.

The band does a quick turn-around and heads Sunday to the Summer Moon Festival where it performs at 7 p.m. at the Armstrong Museum.

Its a busy weekend for us, but its a fun weekend, Hill said.
