Doris Cabelle Woodley
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Doris Cabelle Woodley, 91, died at 6 a.m. Oct. 31, 2008, at Springview Manor Nursing Home.
She was born July 17, 1917, in Terre Haute, Ind., to James and Lattie Wilson Cabelle, who preceded her in death. In 1947, she married Edward Lewis, who died in 1951. In 1957, she married Edgar Woodley, who died in 1995.
Mrs. Woodley opened a restaurant in Indianapolis selling soul food dinners before relocating to Lima and becoming a homemaker. She was a member of Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Usher Board, Missionary Board and Lost Stitch Sewing Club. She loved cooking and gardening of all types, especially flowers. She loved visiting friends and shut-ins.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirel L. (Howard) Youngblood, of Lima; two step-grandsons, Jeffery (Julie) L. Ward, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Robert (Shirley) Walker, of Lima; three sisters-in-law, Jeanette Woodley, Murdis Hall and Anna M. Woodley, all of Lima; and three who affectionately called her grandmother, Cathy Ellis, Solomon Ellis and Christopher Ellis.
She was preceded in death by a stepson, Edward L. Newby, and a brother, Ben Cabelle.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Earnest Stephens Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jones-Clark Funeral Home, where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
