Woman seeks to honor family members' service

It is nice to honor the living veterans, but Veterans Day is also a time to remember deceased veterans. Most cemeteries have American flags at all veterans’ graves. It is a great feeling to see the flags on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. I would like to honor the deceased veteran in my family.
My husband, Wilbur A. Jarvis, served in the Army during World War II. He was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and landed on the beach at Normandy. If you would ask him about his time in the service he would say, “I was there.”
My two brothers, John Gross and James H. Gross Jr., served in the Navy during World War II. James was in the ocean for 13 days before he was rescued. He never talked about it, either.
My brother-in-law, Henry L. Althoff, served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, and was faithful later to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 as an Honor Guard until his death.
At the present time I have a grandson, Craig A. Flack, in the Army, who was in the Gulf War and has spent three tours of duty in Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division. He is stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He has been in the Army for more than 18 years. I’m very proud of him and glad to honor him.
