Lima - Earl Totty Sr., 84, died at 11:34 a.m. Dec. 6, 2009, at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born July 4, 1925, in Bowling Green, Ky., to Lee and Ada Landrum Totty, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 4, 1954, he married Betty Cane, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Totty retired from Sheller-Globe Corp., where he had been a press room foreman and plant superintendent. He had also been a consultant for Sheller-Globe Corp. in Manitoba, Canada. Following his retirement, he became a licensed and bonded locksmith and founded Totty’s Lock & Key Co. As a result of years of experience in lock and key work, he became the primary locksmith at Oakwood Correctional Facility for more than 20 years. He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of St. Paul AME Church. He managed the Sheller-Globe softball league for several years and co-managed the Perry Little League baseball team with Glen Moore. He participate in and sponsored Totty’s Locke & Key bowling league at Westgate Lanes. He was an adviser for Junior Achievement and was a volunteer firefighter for the Perry Township Fire Department. He had served on the Perry Township zoning commission.
Survivors also include a son, Earl (Karen) Totty Jr., of Temecula, Calif.; two grandchildren, Alexis R. and Jordan M.; and a brother, Junices (Judy) Totty, of Lima.
He was preceded in death by three brothers Ronzel, Ewing and Lynwood Totty; and three sisters, Bea Daniel, Mildred Walker and Pauline Hibbit.
Services will begin at noon Friday at St. Paul AME Church. The Rev. Andrew Newberry will officiate. Burial will be in Roundhead Cemetery, Roundhead.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Lewis Eastside Chapel, where the family will be present from 4 to 8 p.m.; 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Jones-Clark Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 4 to 8 p.m., and 10 a.m. until time of services Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the handicap ramp project at St. Paul AME Church.
