Thief took pretty basket from porch

VICKIE FELTON, Lima

I returned home from visiting my mother recently to find someone had stolen one of my matching hanging baskets right off the shepherd's hook in my front yard. I can see why they might want it, as it was beautiful.
It held violet/purple wave petunias with some white/pink tiny accent flowers in smaller bunches in a standard green hanging basket with a sturdy hard plastic hook at the top. It even still had the tag in the basket telling the proper care of the plant. It was on the lower shepherd's hook so I tell myself some poor kid wanted to give his mom something really nice for Mother's Day and took it. At least that is the reasoning I am using so I don't get upset with the idea that an adult or teenager would take it. I don't get so frustrated at the apparent disregard for ownership if it is going to some child's mom - to a point - but the child still needs to know that is not the way to make Mom proud.
So, if you received such a basket and have some questions as to how the child obtained it, please make it clear that stealing is wrong, no matter what you steal.
And I guess I need to go shopping to try to find another plant that will go well with the matching basket they left behind. Maybe an uglier one would be better. Nah.
