Thomas J. “Tom” Gibson, 83, died at 5:17 a.m. Nov. 25, 2009, at Auglaize Acres.
He was born May 24, 1926, in Lima to Hugh C. and Margaret F. Horrigan Gibson, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 11, 1948, he married Jean H. Teehan, and she died July 28, 1992.
Mr. Gibson was the former vice president and general manager of Piel Brothers Clothing, Wapakoneta. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, and its Holy Name Society. He was a graduate of St. Rose High School, Lima, and had attended the University of Dayton. A U.S. Army veteran, he had served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War II. He also volunteered with St. Rita’s Hospice and was an avid reader.
Survivors include two sons, Michael J. (Beverly) Gibson and Patrick J. (Anna) Gibson, both of Wapakoneta; a daughter, Kathleen M. Gibson, of Cincinnati; five grandchildren, Chad (Demi) Gibson, Adam (Shauna) Gibson and Quinn, Molly and Andrew Gibson; four great-grandchildren, Mary Jordan, Sean, Ella, and Finn; a special friend, Mary Scott, of Englewood; and two brothers, Robert J. (Ruth) Gibson, of Lima, and H. Edward (Phyllis) Gibson, of Salton-On-Sea, England.
He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy J. Gibson; and a sister, Mary Ellen McNamara.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wapakoneta, at the church after the Mass. The Rev. Patrick Sloneker will officiate. Burial will be later in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, state Route 501, Wapakoneta.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund, St. Rita’s Hospice or the Auglaize Acres Activity Fund.
