Bryan named first team all-state
COLUMBUS — Tay’ler Mingo of South Euclid Regina, Shicole Watts of Canal Winchester Harvest Prep and Berlin Hiland’s Hilary Weaver took top honors on the 2010 Associated Press Division III and IV All-Ohio teams.
In Division IV, Delphos St. John’s forward Zefiryn Bryan was named first team all-state. Pandora-Gilboa’s Stephanie Recker was selected second team all-state.
Delphos Jefferson’s Kristin Klausing and Ottoville’s Tasha Kaufman were named special mention. Receiving honorable mention honors were Crestview’s Jo Thompson and Marion Local’s Katrina Brand.
Ottoville coach Dave Kleman shared the state coach of the year honors with DeGraff Riverside’s Dean Sanford and Harvest Prep’s David Dennis.
In Division III, Coldwater’s Kara Uhlenhake was named honorable mention.
Mingo, who will be a Florida State teammate of Division I player of the year Natasha Howard next season, was the pick in Division III based on the recommendations of a state media panel. The 5-foot-8 senior averaged 17.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, 6 assists and 5.8 steals a game for South Euclid Regina, which is closing its doors after this academic year.
Watts is a 6-1 junior who scored 14.9 points and added 10.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 52 percent from the field for state-bound Harvest Prep. She shared the Division IV honors with Weaver, who also shared the same honor a year ago. Weaver is a 5-7 senior headed for Lehigh. She hit for 14.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4 steals a game while guiding Hiland to the state tournament.
Honored as coaches of the year in Division III were Kari Kitchen of Springfield Northeastern and Loudonville’s Joy Taylor.
