Letter: Strickland has good record on abortion
Even though the Republican Party has the platform on the abortion issue, there are sound reasons for pro-lifers to consider Gov. Ted Strickland’s voting record.
While he was in Congress, he voted for a ban on partial birth abortions and; the Child Custody Protection Act barring the transportation of minors across state lines for the purpose of obtaining an abortion. He voted for the Pain Relief Prevention Act and assisted suicide fund restrictions. A big one was his vote for a ban on cloning.
As governor, he signed two pro-life bills: one to protect women from coerced abortions and another to require women be offered an ultrasound of their unborn child. He has worked to expand coverage for pregnant women through SCHIP and Healthy Start. He has cooperated with efforts to enforce abortion facility regulations.
While not always a 100 percent voting record, we are proud of what he has accomplished as this has taken courage on his part to buck the party. We look forward to working with him as pro-life bills come up in the Ohio Legislature.
