Flags, not sound, problem at concert
Comments 0 | Recommend 0In the Aug. 22 Lima News, a letter writer complained about the sound quality of the Lynard Skynard show at the Allen County Fair. He also wrote that he was in the grandstand.
My fiancé and I were at this show. I was in the track section and did not notice anything out of the ordinary as far as sound quality. I never have seen a show from the "nose bleed" level, and I will not go if I cannot get a reasonably good seat.
The problem I had with the Skynard show was the hawking of the Confederate flags. This community has enough racial problems already. The fair belongs to everyone, and I don't feel the selling of these flags serves any useful purpose except to make the seller a quick buck. Thankfully, it appeared not many were insulting their intelligence by purchasing them.
The night before the Skynard show, Gretchen Wilson put on a terrific, patriotic show. In addition to her country hits, she sang several rock ‘n' roll hits with a limited number of "tear in my beer" whiners. On a scale of one to 10, I would rate her show an eight, much better than Skynard.
No one can please all of us all of the time. However, fair Manager Jay Begg and his staff should be commended for all the work they do to bring our fair to fruition each year.
