Pandora

Norman L. Smith, 77, died at 7:40 a.m. Nov. 30, 2009, at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.

He was born April 6, 1932, in Cairo to Lester and Lois McDowell Smith, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 20, 1954, he married Gwendoline M. Cox, who survives in Pandora.

Mr. Smith was a 1950 graduate of Columbus Grove High School. He was an Air Force veteran serving in the early 1950s in England, where he met his wife. He had been a driver for Geiger Transportation, Pandora, then retired from Textron Corp./Ex-Cell-O, Bluffton. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid gardener, particularly in lawn care.

Survivors also include two sons, David (Judie) Smith, of Pandora, and Gary (Tammy) Smith, of Columbus Grove; a daughter, Lesley (Ron) Peck, of Kalida; a brother, Paul (Wanda) Smith, of Columbus Grove; two sisters, Evelyn (Wayne) Blubaugh, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Carol Graham, of Elida; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Smith.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Burial will be in Truro Cemetery, Columbus Grove, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9648 and American Legion Post 516.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice.
