Comments 0Ottoville - Henry Albert Smith, 90, of Lake Worth, Fla., formerly of Ottoville, died Nov. 18, 2009, in Lake Worth, Fla.
He was born Aug. 26, 1919, to August and Eva Smith, who preceded him in death. His wife of 47 years, Grace B. Smith, died January 1998.
Mr. Smith was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1941 to 1945. He survived the sinking of his troop ship in the English Channel in 1944. He was a 1937 graduate of Ottoville High School. He was a member of Iron Workers Local 17, Cleveland, for more than 25 years. He had been a police officer and reserve firefighter in Northfield. He was an avid coin collector and fisherman. He had been the curator of the Northfield Historical Society, where he designed and had minted a silver medal commemorating the Palmer House. In 1991, he and his wife moved to Florida to enjoy the warmer climate and the fishing.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Eickholt, Mildred Bowers, Regina Weber and Margaret Kaverman; and two brothers, Jacob and George Smith.
Services will be held at a later date in Ottoville.
