90th birthday — Martha “Jean” Sloan

LIMA — Martha “Jean” Sloan, of Lima, will celebrate her 90th birthday Feb. 17, 2012. A reception is planned after the 10:15 a.m. church service, Feb. 19th, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 209 W. North St., Lima. It will be held in the gathering room.
She was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Lima, to Joseph and Clara (Long) Morrison. She married Virgil C. Sloan, and he died Sept. 20, 2000.
Sloan has two sons, John (Nancy) Sloan, of Soper, Okla. and Virgil (Jean) Sloan, of LaFayette; and two daughters, Edith (Calvin) Reese, of Lima and Lynne (Greg) Adams, of Columbus Grove.
She was a bookkeeper and taught Sunday School to the children of St. Luke's for 50 years. She has been an avid volunteer her whole life, always serving others. She has made hundreds of quilts that are shipped overseas to third world countries. Sloan loves feeding and watching birds and reading.
She is a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
