Kewpee's workers loyal
March 06, 2011 1:00 AM
LIMA — Lisa Altenbach has been working at the Kewpee on Bellefontaine Avenue for 30 years. John Shaw's been there for 20.
Such longevity is uncommon in a lot of businesses, especially fast food, but not at the Kewpee.
Scott Shutt, whose father, Harry Shutt, owns the chain, rattled off a list of several names when asked for long-term employees.
Altenbach, who works as a supervisor and cashier, said Kewpee is the only place she's worked.
“I enjoy the people, the customers and I like working for Mr. Shutt,” she said. When Scott Shutt looked on with a smile, she laughed and said, “I mean Harry.”
Shaw works as a cook and supervisor.
“They are easy to get along with and pretty much whatever you ask they help you out with,” he said of the Shutts.
“It's a very good place to work and there's pretty much job security here. It's been around for a while.”
Altenbach agrees, saying the benefits are great.
“It's more like a family,” she said. “They treat you with respect.”
