Betty L. Shrider, 85, died at 3:44 a.m. Jan. 6, 2010, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.

She was born June 9, 1924, in Elk City, Okla., to A.M. “Bud” and Fairy Hall Shrider, who preceded her in death.

Miss Shrider attended grade school in Dewey, Okla., high school in Lafayette and college at Olivet Nazarene University. She completed her graduate work at The Ohio State University, Indiana University and Northwestern University. She had been a teacher at Spencerville High School from 1948 to 1956 and at Bath High School from 1956 until her retirement in 1981. She was a charter member of the Lima Community Church of the Nazarene and had been affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene all of her life, where she held several positions. She was a volunteer at WTGN. She had a strong, lifelong involvement in education, music and mission ministries.

Survivors include several cousins and dear friends; and her caregivers, the Rev. Buck and Alice Traylor, of Andover, and Alvin and Pat Willis, of Lima.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. The Rev. Vince Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Lafayette Cemetery, Lafayette.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
