Roland H. “Alex” Alexander Jr., 84, died at 3:15 a.m. Nov. 22, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Saginaw, Mich., to Roland H. Sr. and Hazel Lambert Alexander, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 22, 1947, he married Cretora O. “Tory” Shenk, who survives in Lima.

Mr. Alexander proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II as part of the occupational forces in Germany. He was the owner of Alexander Builders and had previously owned Alexander Drywall. He was a member and past president of West Central Ohio Homebuilders Association. He was a lifelong fishing enthusiast and considered a “legend” in Grand Isle, La.

Survivors also include two sons, R. Michael “Mike” (Cindy) Alexander and T. Jacob “Jake” Alexander, both of Lima; a daughter, Barbara Schlagbaum, of Westerville; and eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald A. Alexander; and a sister, “Elizabeth “Libby” Welch.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, Lima. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Delphos.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A luncheon and time of gathering will take place at the Fraternal Order of Eagles hall in Delphos immediately following the committal ceremony at the cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
