Carol A. Rockey Shirey, 82, died at 11:40 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009, at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance.
She was born Jan. 1, 1927, in Continental to Edgar Ray and Elizabeth Helene Eastman Rockey, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 10, 1943, she married George “Bud” Shirey, who survives in Continental. They were married for 66 years.
Mrs. Shirey was a homemaker and had worked at Doc’s TV & Hardware, Continental, and Cooper hatchery, Oakwood, for several years. She and her husband owned and operated Judy’s Whip, which was located in front of their home for several years.
Survivors also include two sons, Mike (Lana) Shirey, of Continental, and Martin (Sue) Shirey, of Defiance; a daughter, Judy (Howard) Mayes, of Continental; 11 grandchildren, Sara (Doug) Kisseberth, Gene (Michelle) Mayes, Chad (Jody) Shirey, Stacy (Mike) Adams, Ashley (Shawn) Fessel, Jeremy Shirey, Zach Carnahan, Sarah (Mike) Schnipke, Ryan Troyer, Dustin (Kylee) Shirey and Aaron (Elisha) DeRan; 13 great-grandchildren, Brandon Kisseberth, Mikayla Mayes, Elijah Mayes, Mckenzy Mayes, Clay Shirey, Bailey Shirey, Olivia Adams, Genevieve Adams, Zoe Fessel, Emerson Schnipke, Titus Troyer, Kenyah Shirey and Weston Shirey; three brothers, Marvin (Jo) Rockey, of San Antonio, Richard Rockey, of Defiance, and Randall (Gail) Rockey, of New Mexico; two sisters, Virginia Cooper, of Oakwood, and Phyllis (Irvin) Lloyd, of Continental; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jordan Shirey; two brothers, Royal and Delbert Rockey; and two daughters-in-law, Mary Shirey and Rose Shirey.
Graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday in Cascade Cemetery, Cloverdale. The Rev. Jeff Mullinix will officiate.
Friends may call at a luncheon following the services in the fellowship hall of Twin Oaks United Methodist Church, Oakwood.
Memorial contributions may be made to Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center, the Jordan C. Shirey Memorial Scholarship Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the care given to her by the volunteers and staff at The Laurels of Defiance and the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
