ELIDA — Elida’s boys tennis team won its home invitational with 13 points while Van Wert followed with 10. Wapakoneta was third with 8 and Sidney scored 5.
The Elida doubles team of Mitchell Chavez and Arwin Sayoto won the “A” Doubles tournament. Van Wert’s duo of Bryan Zinsmaster and Gary Espinoza won the “B” Doubles bracket while Elida’s Justin Miller and Cody Kerns won the “C” Doubles tournament.
Baseball
Perry sweeps Ada
PERRY TOWNSHIP — T.J. Sloan and Corey Smith each pitched gems for Perry in a doubleheader sweep of Ada, winning 4-0 and 12-1.
In the first game, Sloan pitched a 2-hit shutout, fanning 4 and walking 2. He also was 2-for-4 with a stolen base, a run scored an RBI while Drew Smith was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a double. Aaron Weyer was 2-fo-3 for Ada. In the second game, Smith pitched a complete game, 2-hitter. Sloan doubled, singled and scored twice and Tyler Cornwell was 2-for-3 for Perry (5-3).
Bluffton, Coldwater split
COLDWATER — Bluffton scored 5 runs in the fourth inning and pitcher Gabe Goldsberry picked up a win as the Pirates beat host Coldwater 7-5 in the nightcap of a doubleheader. In the opener, Coldwater (8-6) beat Bluffton (8-2) 12-3. Ethan Bettinger got the pitching win while Drew Klosterman had 2 doubles.
Lima Senior battles Marion Harding
LIMA — Casey Reed went 2-for-4 with a double and Zach Rumbaugh struck out 4 for a pitching win as Lima Senior began the day with a 5-3 win over visiting Marion Harding. Drew Jennings also doubled for the Spartans. In the nightcap, Harding won 4-3. Reed doubled while Mike Fisher singled and doubled for the Spartans (4-9).
Elida finishes 1-1
FORT LORAMIE — Elida began the Fort Loramie Invitational with a 10-0 five-inning lostt to Minster. Minster’s Brett Meiring went 3-for-3 with a double and 4 RBIs while Doug Huber doubled, singled and had 2 RBIs. In the second game, Elida won 3-2 in 10 innings. Adam VonSossan was 3-for-5 and Jake Porter got the pitching win and was 2-for-3 from the plate.
Shawnee falls to Bryan
BRYAN — Bryan held off Shawnee for a pair of wins, 5-3 and 3-0, in a doubleheader. Corey Wilder doubled in the opener for Shawnee while Clint Spencer and Wilder each doubled in the second game. Shawnee falls to 7-6 while Bryan is 12-2.
Softball
Bath shuts out Coldwater
COLDWATER — Bath’s Camille Martin put on a show in a doubleheader at Coldwater as the Wildkittens won 11-0 and 20-0. In the first game, Martin threw a no-hitter, striking out 5, and was 3-for-3 from the plate with 3 stolen bases and 2 doubles. Emily Jordan and Mari Deppe doubled also in the first win. In game two, Martin homered while teammates Emily Jordan and Mari Deppe each doubled. Kimmy Reynolds threw a 1-hitter for bath to get the win.
Elida falls, then rolls
HOUSTON — Elida began the Houston Invitational with a 9-4 loss to Sidney. Jessica Guerrero had 3 hits and 2 RBIs, Aryanna Brown had an RBI and Jenn Eilerman had 2 singles for Elida. In the second game, Elida crushed North Ridge 16-0 in 5 innings. Brown smacked a triple, Eilerman and Kayla Smith each had 2 hits while Jordan Haidle and Lauren Greely had 2 RBIs apiece. Lindsay Peters got the pitching win.
Bluffton 22, Anna 3
ANNA — Brianna Laing went 3-for-5 with a double and 4 stolen bases as Bluffton smacked 18 hits en route to the win. Kala Longworth raised her pitching record to 6-4 for Bluffton. Ashlin Gable was 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs and Adrian Rumer was 3-for-5 with a double and 5 RBIs.
Marion Local holds off Russia
MARIA STEIN — Jodi Otte pitched a 2-hit shutout for Marion Local in a 1-0 victory to open a doubleheader against Russia. In the second game, Mindy Puthoff doubled and pitched a 3-hit shutout in a 6-0 win. Kari Koesters doubled in both games for the Flyers.
