Oliver Wendell “Red” Myers, 77, died at 10:47 p.m. Dec. 12, 2009, at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born Feb. 15, 1932, in Lima to Walter and Maggie Lee Myers, who preceded him in death. On June 16, 1951, he married Myrna Myers, who survives in Harrod.
Mr. Myers retired in 1981 from Superior Coach. He was an Army veteran, serving in Japan during the Korean War. He was proud to have served his country. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, where he had served as a vice commander and had been a member of the funeral detail for several years. He was a 25-year member of Lodge 513 Free & Accepted Masons, Lafayette, and a 30-year member of the Lima Bean Barbershop Chorus. He loved his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors and his trips to Pomeroy.
Survivors also include a son, Tony Lee (Pat) Myers, of Florida; three daughters, Sandy S. (LeRoy) Roby, Sheila A. (Bill) Kimmel and Nancy M. Zerbe, all of Harrod; nine grandchildren, Scott Roby, Todd (Tara) Roby, Sam Myers, Anthony Myers, John Kimmel, Mileah (Travis) Stauffer, Melissa (Nathan) Marshall, Nicole (Patrick) Murphy and Courtney Myers; eight grandchildren, Wade and Ryan Stauffer, Jaden and Dylan Roby, Cooper Myers, Aubrey Myers, Jadzia Marshall and Nora Murphy; two brothers, Paul (Martha) Myers, of Orlando, Fla., and George (Peg) Myers, of Harrod; and a sister, Gladys (Paul) Sillin, of Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelley Jane Myers; a grandson, William Kimmel; two brothers, LeRoy and Ronald Myers; and a sister, Maxine Keller.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Lewis Eastside Chapel. Chaplain Dick Coon will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Westminster, with military rites by VFW Post 1275.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where a VFW service will be held at a 4 p.m. and a Masonic service at 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrod Fire Department or the Allen East Community Center.
