Alcohol should be legal for all adults
Comments 0 | Recommend 0I am a veteran of the Vietnam War and, being born in October 1942, I consider myself a war baby and share some experiences with the veterans of all conflicts since then. I can remember debating the voting age issue when I was in college at Ohio State University during the early 1960s. It seems ludicrous now to think that we even needed to debate it when it was obvious that anyone who was old enough to get married and raise children and go to war and kill people or get killed and enter into contracts, etc. should not be able to vote.
This letter concerns the drinking age debate. When I was debating the voting issue, it seems like we students could drink 3.2 beer in Ohio at that time. Six percent was permitted after reaching age 21. What was so wrong with that law? The only reason Ohio changed was because of the federal highway bill that some Prohibition-minded congressman wanted. I suggest we seek to modify that highway legislation if necessary to make 3.2 OK for 18-year-old men and women to drink.
