Chief Petty Officer John David “Dave” Wilson, 39, of Clarksburg, Md., formerly of Lima, died Nov. 8, 2009, at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md.
He was born Sept. 27, 1970, in Lima to Jimmy and Delphia Wilson, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 29, 1994, he married Angie Eibling Wilson, formerly of Dola, who survives.
Chief Wilson was a graduate of Elida High School. He served in the Army from August 1988 to January 1989, as a medical specialist assigned to the 232nd Medical Battalion, Company B, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He joined the Navy on Nov. 19, 1990, completing his basic military training at Great Lakes, Ill., where he graduated from Corpsman A school in May 1991. He was then assigned to Naval Hospital, Cherry Point, N.C., where he worked with the Marine Corps. He then received orders to the 2nd Medical Battalion at Camp Lejeune, N.C., where he graduated from Field Medical Service School in January 1993. He enrolled in Advance Laboratory C School at Bethesda, Md., which he completed in June 1996, and returned to Naval Hospital, Cherry Point, N.C. He and his family were transferred in March 2000 to Okinawa, Japan, where he was assigned to MWSS 172, 1st Marine Air Wing and was the assistant deployment chief for Cloud Warrior. He then transferred into the Camp Kinser Branch Medical Clinic, Okinawa, Japan, until November 2002. In December 2002, he was sent to San Diego, where he served aboard the USS Cleveland (LPD-7), which supported the Global War on Terrorism/Operation Enduring Freedom. He received several accolades and earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist designation.
In 2005, while stationed at Branch Medical Clinic, San Diego, he was selected and advanced to the rank of chief petty officer. He was assigned to the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md., in December 2005. There he was the leading chief of casualty affairs as which he provided guided tours for two former presidents and a host of prominent figureheads. He received a Meritorious Service Medal. In October 2007, he deployed with the Army’s 432nd CA Battalion and was in Iraq until November 2008. When he returned, he was assigned as the leading chief petty officer of the Armed Services Blood Bank Center.
He was a graduate of George Washington University. He loved his family and his country. He enjoyed spending time and having fun with family and friends. He enjoyed music, the outdoors and was an avid fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes, Auburn, the Miami Dolphins and the Cincinnati Reds. He was a fan of “The Simpsons” and always had a good joke to tell. He made a difference in many lives around the globe while serving our great country. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Survivors also include two children, David “The Boy” Wilson and Emily “Roobear” Wilson, both of Clarksburg, Md.; a sister, Dr. Barbara (Chuck) Wyss, of London, Ohio; father- and mother-in-law, Tom and Kay Eibling, of Dola; a sister-in-law, Tami (Greg) Johnson, of Kenton; a brother-in-law, Jeff Eibling, of Ada; six nieces and nephews, Rhianna, Ross and Rhys Wyss, of London, Ohio, and Michael, Ryan and Adam Johnson, of Kenton; two grandparents-in-law, Vivian Eibling, of Kenton, and Vida Preston, of Dola; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Wilson, and his grandparents.
Graveside services will begin at 3 p.m. Dec. 23 at the Fort Myer Old Post Chapel in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C. A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. Dec. 27 at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, Lima, with military rites.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 27 at the funeral home.
