LIMA — In a dozen visits to Lima, the southern gospel group Legacy Five has gotten to know the local crowds well, and this year plans to bring a little something special to their fans.
“They will be singing a lot of music from their new CD, ‘A Wonderful Life,'” said Scott Young of WTGN radio. “Their first single off that is ‘Ask Me Why,' which they'll probably perform, and they've been getting rave reviews on another song from the new CD called ‘Destination Known.'”
Young said tickets for this concert are selling well.
Legacy Five was formed in 2000 after the popular Cathedrals disbanded. They performed in Lima in January of that year, and have returned every year since.
“I think they remain popular here because of their real-ness. They're down to earth. In Christian terms, they're the real deal. It's not a show, it's a ministry for them,” Young said. “Over these past 12 years, they've developed a relationship with this area, and that shows.”
Along with the new music, the group will also perform many of the classics their audience expects. That would include songs from their 2010 Top 5 Fan Award album, “Jubilee,” as well as their version of the Cathedral classic, “We Shall See Jesus.”
The group, which in 2011 was nominated for six awards from the Singing News for gospel music, will also debut Trey Ivy, their new 23-year-old piano player. He replaces Tim Parton, who took a job in broadcasting.
