Norma E. Moore, 88, died at 1:25 p.m. Feb. 3, 2010, at The Meadows of Leipsic in Leipsic.

She was born June 3, 1921, in Ottawa Township to John W. and Mary Elizabeth Reeder Perkey, who preceded her in death. She married Carl F. Conine, whom she divorced after 25 years. On Aug. 20, 1966, she married Eugene H. Schmiedebush, who was a high school friend, and he preceded her in death. On Nov. 1, 1981, she married John J. Moore, who died Oct. 21, 1999.

Mrs. Moore worked at Westinghouse Manufacturing during World War II, at Paul’s 5 & 10, Ottawa, for 13 years and in the office of Louisiana Pacific. She also worked at City Loan & Savings Co., Ottawa, and retired in 1986 from the Lima office. She was a 1938 graduate of Palmer High School, Miller City.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa, where she served in several capacities. Her favorite was the 18 years as Sunday school superintendent, where under her leadership, the children collected enough money for the purchase of two upright pianos they presented to Trinity United Methodist Church in 1964, when the church moved to its current location. She was a member of the church’s United Methodist Women, where in 2002, she received its Special Mission Recognition with a gift given from ministries with women, children and youth given to the Women’s Division-General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church in her honor.

She had been a member of the International Business & Professional Women. She always enjoyed sewing and after her retirement she learned her mother’s favorite pastime of quilting. She handmade numerous beautiful quilts and crocheted afghans for her family. She enjoyed camping and had traveled the United States and Canada extensively. She was a loving women, who was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Although a failing body had severely limited her movement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and was always interested in others’ lives and their activities. Even in her final years, her fun-loving spirit touched those who were fortunate enough to spend time with her and she will be greatly missed by many.

Survivors include a child, Sandi (Dave) Racer, of Ottawa; three grandchildren, David “Chip” (Lisa) Racer, of Ottawa, Brent (Stacy) Racer, of Columbus, and Cherie (Shannon) Fillinger, of Leipsic; five great-grandchildren, Brianne Racer, Brad Racer, Eric Racer, Isaac Fillinger and Zach Fillinger; three brothers, Lowell (Lorrie) Perkey, of Monterey, Tenn., Howard (Fran) Perkey, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and N. Robert “Bob” (Nancy) Perkey, of Springboro; a sister-in-law, Elaine Perkey, of Ottawa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Rolland E. and E. Gene Perkey; and two sisters-in-law, Margine Perkey and Jeanette Perkey.

Services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa. The Rev. Lynda Lockwood will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Harman Cemetery, Gilboa.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 137 N. Pratt St., Ottawa, OH 45875; or the charity of the donor’s choice.
