PAULDING — Shawnee opened the new softball season much the way it went through the previous season — with a win.
Shelby Lucas had four hits and three RBIs to lead the Indians to an 8-0 win over Paulding. Lucas, Brittany Lauck and Liz Aller all had triples.
The Indians had 11 hits and scored five times in the sixth inning.
Samantha Bullock gave up two hits in the win for Shawnee (1-0).
Van Wert 14, Lima Senior 0
LIMA — Van Wert scored four runs in both the second and third innings and added a back-breaking six runs in the fourth to open the season with a win. The Cougars (1-0) had eight hits and no errors. Lima Senior (0-1) had just one hit against four errors.
Morgan Williams pitched the win.
St. Marys 3, Marion Local 2
ST. MARYS — Erika Thornsberry began her senior year with an eight-strikeout, two-walk performance in the win. The Roughriders scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.
Kaley Scham had three hits and an RBI for the ‘Riders.
Parkway 19, Spencerville 1
ROCKFORD — Two Parkway pitchers combined for a no-hitter, and the offense backed them up with 19 hits. Lindsay Walls had two hits and six RBIs.
West Liberty Salem 6, Bath 4
BATH TOWNSHIP — West Liberty Salem scored twice in the top of the fifth to secure the road win. Salem pounded out 14 hits.
The Wildkittens had eight hits and scored three in the third inning to take a 4-2 lead.
Ada 9, Hardin Northern 2
ADA — Ada started off the game with three runs in the first and added four more in the fifth to swamp Hardin Northern. The Polar Bears committed 11 errors.
Kenton 3, Upper Sandusky 2
UPPER SANDUSKY — Kenton scored runs in the seventh and ninth innings to edge Upper Sandusky. Morgan Goecke pitched the win for the Wildcats, striking out eight batters. Aliana Kruger had two doubles for Kenton.
Bluffton 14, McComb 13
BLUFFTON — Bluffton scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the win. Kala Longworth earned the win for the Pirates.
Bluffton rallied with four unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings to force the extra frame.
BASEBALL
Defiance 11, Archbold 2
DEFIANCE — Anthony Kidston and Ryan Cordray each hit home runs for Defiance, which opened the game with three runs in the first inning. Kidston added a double, one of Defiance’s 10 hits.
Kurt Bealu pitched the win for the Bulldogs.
Van Wert 9, Spencerville 0
VAN WERT — Brant Taylor had two doubles and four RBIs, and Tyler Paige struck out 13 batters as Van Wert punished Spencerville. The Cougars pounded out 12 hits, six of them doubles.
The Bearcats had just one hit with three errors.
Ada 13, Hardin Northern 2
ADA — Aaron Weyer drove in three runs for Ada, on two hits with a double. Matt Gray also had two hits for the Bulldogs, scoring twice. Caleb Duffy scored three runs.
Austin Everhart pitched all six innings for Ada, allowing three hits with eight strikeouts.
Elida 8, Fort Jennings 4
ELIDA — Ian Haidle had two hits and three RBIs and Elida picked up the win. Adam VonSossan picked up the win and Jake Porter threw for the save.
Tyler Good had two RBIs for the Musketeers.
Shawnee 13, Paulding 3
SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee jumped out to a 6-2 lead after two innings and never let up. Trey Runneals pitched the win and also drove in four runs at the plate. Tyler Lundry had two hits and three RBIs for the Indians.
Greenville 11, Marion Local 7
GREENVILLE —Ryan Mescher and Mitch Eilerman each had two hits, but the Flyers fell on the road. They committed four errors and two pitchers gave up nine hits and eight earned runs.
Indian Lake 2, St. Henry 1
LEWISTOWN — Indian Lake scored a run in the eighth inning to break open a tie and notch the win. Tyler Bruns threw six no-hit innings for St. Henry despite the no decision. He walked the first three batters and allowed one unearned run.
Brad Heitkamp had one of two hits for St. Henry, driving in the only run.
BOYS TENNIS
Blulffton 5, Bath 0
BATH TOWNSHIP — David Hooley won at first singles 6-0, 6-0 and Bluffton swept through a road win. Matthew Deter and Michael Deter also won at singles. Doubles wins went to the teams of Kory Ennering and Nick Slinger, and Nathan Diller and Aaron Basinger.
Sidney Lehman 3, St. Marys 2
SIDNEY — Sidney Lehman took the top two singles matches and first doubles as well for the non-league win. Eric Dickey won at third singles for St. Marys, and Jeremy Wilson and Riley Parent won at second doubles for the Roughriders.
