90th Birthday — Charles B. Moening

ELIDA — Charles B. Moening, of Elida, celebrated his 90th birthday Jan. 20, 2012. A party was held on Jan. 14, at the American Township Building for family and friends.
He was born Jan. 20, 1922, in Lima, to Lawrence and Hattie Taflinger Moening. On April 17, 1948 he married Pat Tomlinson.
Moening has two sons, Steve C. Moening, of Elida and Scott Moening, of Cuyahoga Falls; and two daughters Chris Colbert, of Greensburg, Penn., and Kim Hilborn, of Pickerington. He has 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Moening was a prisoner of war during WWII. He was taken prisoner on Wake Island and was held prisoner in various camps in China and Japan for 44 months.
He retired in 1986 from Standard Oil of Ohio where he was an instrument technician.
