Lawrence Rupp "Larry" Weber, 90, died Nov. 9, 2008, at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born May 25, 1918, in Toledo to Frank Harman and Grace Williamson Rupp Weber, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 14, 1949, at Grace Methodist Church, he married Mary Elizabeth "Marilyn" Stines, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Weber retired in 1979 as a planning and design engineer from the Ohio Department of Transportation. He was a 48-year member of Epworth United Methodist Church and a member of Family of Faith United Methodist Church since 2002. He was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and a former member of the Lima Society of Professional Engineers. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54. He earned his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Ohio Northern University, Ada.
He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II serving as a sergeant for more than four years with the 46th Service Group. He served three years in the Asiatic Theater. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the American Defense Service Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and battle stars for campaigns in the southern Philippines, Papua, the East Indies, Bismarck, Archipelago and New Guinea. He enjoyed golfing, ballroom dancing and traveling.
Survivors also include a son, Dr. Robert J. (Dr. Margaret Turk) Weber, of Liverpool, N.Y.; two daughters, Sharon Becker, of Garner, N.C., and Nancy (Jeff) Klemstine, of Dublin; three grandchildren, R.J. (Nina) Becker, of White Plains, N.Y., Cindi (Dr. Karl) Klamar, of Columbus, and Erin (Kevan) Emmott, of Arlington, Va.; four great-grandsons, Samuel Robert and Peter Weber Klamar and Cooper and Fletcher Emmott; a sister, Lucile (Joseph) Smith, of Oceanside, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Betty Weber, of Duran, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Weber.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home. Pastor Jim Loescher will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church or Family of Faith United Methodist Church.
