Charles Mac Meeker, 86, of Cecil, formerly of Cridersville, died Nov. 14, 2009, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Facility, Defiance, surrounded by his family.

He was born Aug. 27, 1923, in Cridersville to Berlin and Della MacDougle Meeker, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 8, 1942, he married his high school sweetheart in Carson City, Mich., Angeline Mae Benedetto, who preceded him in death. They were married for 64 years.

Mr. Meeker was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II stationed in England, where he served as a navigator with the 108th Air Force Bomber Squadron and flew missions in the Normandy Invasion. He played professional basketball for the Army Air Forces during and after the war, traveling in the United States and abroad. Following the war he worked at Superior Coach Co. and Westinghouse Electric Corp., both in Lima. He retired in 1978 as a shift foreman from Standard Oil/Husky Refinery. Following his retirement, he and his wife lived at Union City Lake, Union City, Mich., until 2001, when they moved to Bryan to be closer to their family. He was a 65-year member of Lodge 585 Free & Accepted Masons, Lima, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2489, Bryan, and the VFW in Athens, Mich. He and his wife had many good and faithful friends during their married lives. He enjoyed gardening and running a produce stand. They loved traveling, walking and collecting seashells on the beach. He was an exceptional and loving grandfather. He spent many hours fishing, boating and water skiing with his grandchildren. He also spent half a fortune on ice cream runs. He has now joined his beloved wife to be with their Lord and Savior.

Survivors include two children, Charles Lynn Meeker, of Statesville, N.C., and Darlene Mae Kill (Mike) Overmyer, of Sherwood; and five grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Lavern O. Kill; and a 2-month-old stepgreat-grandson, Cody Allen Shultz.

Services will be held Monday at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Facility Chapel, Defiance. Pastor Donna Stutzman will officiate.
